One-day EM model building workshop with Greg Chojnowski

We were delighted to host Greg Chojnowski at Newcastle for a one-day EM model building tutorial and lecture, taking participants through a complete cycle of model building into cryo-EM maps.

The whole course ran in the browser. No local installs, no specialist hardware — just a pool of cloud virtual servers, which meant everyone could get straight to the science rather than wrestling with software setup. Two tools did the heavy lifting: Moorhen for interactive model building, which proved fast and stable enough for even the more demanding tasks, and CCP-EM/Doppio to guide people through the model building pipeline.

A one-day crash course is intense, and it’s easy to underestimate how many skills quietly go into interactive model building. Huge thanks to Greg for running such a well-judged session, and to everyone who took part — a great group, with great questions throughout.
